Athletes from three countries (Romania, Hungary and Slovakia), representing nine clubs, participated in the Salonta football tennis tournament organized by the Tengo club, in the locality.
It was a real sport marathon on the net, the games being played for two days in a row, Saturday and Sunday, at the two sport halls in Bihor. At the event also attended Sorin Bogdan, the president of the Futnet Romania Association, who highlighted the growth potential of this sport branch, known in Romania under the names of football tennis and labtennis (in Ardeal).
The second tournament of the year (the first took place at Simleul Silvaniei), offered spectacular games, with not only the established teams (Tengo Salonta, Victory and JSF Cluj-Napoca, SK Humenne, Szazhalombatta), but also new teams who came to the family of the Romanian futnet, like Simex Simleul Silvaniei, Satu Mare Juni, Campulung Moldovenesc Tehnical Sharks or the boys from Oradea or Zalau. It is to mention that the Salonta people also bet on the junior team members, but also the double female team, made up of Madalina Istrate and Andreea Neag, who played against the boys, benefiting from the female rule (two falls).
After a grueling first day, in which, during 12 hours, no less games were played, including the games of the quarter-finals, it was decided to score at each at the three singles, doubles and triple probes. The hosts entered all four semifinals, moreover, the final was a family business, between Tengo 1 and 2. The youth defeated the experience, the pair Nagy Darius-Alex Sorean set in two tight sets (14-12 and 11-9), in front of the higher level players Georgel Bobis and Vasile Sorean juniors. Alex made his double by winning the game (2-0 in front of the Slovak-Marek Hulin), while at the triple won the pair of Laborec Humenne, at the end of two sets of live and spectacular games in front of the locals from Tengo. The podium was completed with the Hungarian team, Batta Futnet (3rd place at single) and JSF Cluj-Napoca (3rd place at the triple).
"We have reached our goal. We had games of a high quality level, we won, but we also offered a show to the lovers of this sport, from Salonta and Bihor, who have been with us this past two days" concluded Vasile Sorean, the coach of Tengo Salonta, the team who owns the Interclub Championship Cup. Sorin Bogdan, president of the Futnet Romania Association, stated: "It was a flawless organized competition by the hosts, with a lot of participation. Even the competitive season did not begin, the level of the games was very high. This succesful tournament gives us hope that this sport will develop with great strides."
